Felix and Agnes zu Salm Salm

Prince Felix zu Salm-Salm, a Westphalian, was one of the last great soldiers of fortune. He fought in the armies of Prussia, Austria and the United States of America where he married his formidable wife Princess Agnes. After the end of the American War Between the States he went south and joined the army of Mexican Emperor Maximilian. Taken prisoner after the fall of Queretaro his wife made such trouble for the victorious revolutionaries that he was finally released and the couple returned to Europe where he was later killed in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870.
