16 Tons (Alberto Vazquez)

I normally wouldn't bother with covers of foreign songs, particularly if the diction is mangled, but after hearing the Tennessee Ernie Ford and Johnny Cash versions, I though You Tube users might appreciate Alberto's vocal superiority.

As an introduction, AV (born 1940 in Sonora) was an early ambassador of Rock & Blues in Mexico... as a 16 year old he used to sing 16 Tons & La Feulle Mortes during intermission at his dad's Mexico City movie theater. Four years later he was discovered by Musart's Guillermo Acosta and recorded Olvidalo (the Spanish version of John Gary's "Forget It") on Side A, and this version of 16 Tons on Side B.

This 1960 version is obviously quite good... but if anybody has a more recent version where his voice was a bit more mature & developed... please post it as a response to this video.
16 Toneladas fue grabada por Alberto en 1960 a sus 20 anos, en lo que fuera su primer grabacion. En ese primer disco tambien grabo "Olividalo" en espanol.
