KFI Reports - A test track near the port of LA has electrified the trucking industry.

Engineers have been testing the first eHighway in North America along a stretch of Alameda in Carson. Matt Miyasato is a scientist with the South Coast Air Quality Management District, he says the eHighway allows trucks to depend more on electric power than engine power.

"Most of the smog forming emissions in our basin are from on-road heavy-duty trucks. So we're constantly looking for new technologies to reduce that burden here on the south coast."

The AQMD has partnered with Siemens to build a two mile test track to demonstrate how the system could work. The trucks use overhead wires similar to how streetcars or trolleys are electrified.
