Oliver Power Steering Conversion Part 2
Part 2 of converting Alan's 1650 from the original Saginaw steering to the much better Char-lyn style steering, all while keeping the original steering column and steering wheel.
Here's the parts I used to make this conversion. There are complete kits available, but they require the installation of a new steering column and wheel, my conversion keeps the original column and wheel, preserving the telescoping feature and the original appearance.
The steering motor bracket was purchased from Maibach Tractor. They were the only source I could find for buying the bracket by itself.

You'll also need to get the clamp ring.

I bought the steering motor from Midwest Steering. The motor itself is their own brand, made in Europe, and is essentially the same as the Char-Lyn but at a much lower price. We bought the 7.56 cubic inch displacement model. On Herman (4x4 tractor) this gives about 3-1/2 turns of the wheel from full left to full right, on the 1650 (2 wheel drive) it ended up being about 2-1/2 from left to right. They have a motor with a 3.8 cubic inch displacement that would get closer to the 4 revolutions of the steering if that is an issue for you. We really liked the speed of the 7.56 cu motor for loader work, but can see where some might not like it at road speeds. I have links below for each size, along with the fittings that would be used with each one. (The slow motor has larger ports for whatever reason)
UPDATE: Midwest Steering has discontinued the steering motors I had linked to, but does have replacements available. I'm not going to link to anything until I know more about what they have to offer. If you do order, you're looking for a replacement for a char-lynn motor with approximately 5 or 6 cubic inch displacement, open center, and NON-load reacting.
These are the rest of the fittings I bought to route my lines. I have been happy with my purchases from Clearwater Hydraulics so far, but I'm sure most of these fittings could be found at any hydraulic supply shop.

Here's the coupler I used to weld onto the end of the original steering column. It is splined on one end and a smooth bore on the other end. I cut the smooth end off, and the splined end was the perfect length to weld to the old shaft. This too was from Midwest steering, so order it at the same time to save on shipping.

Here's the stub shaft that I used as well:

That should be everything other than hoses, which can vary on which model of Oliver you are putting all of this on.
