Polish part of the High Tatras

The Polish Tatras are considerably a small part of the Tatra range belonging in the Western Carpathians and constitute only one-fifth of the entire range of the Tatras.The north-western summit of Rysy which tops out at 2500m is the highest point of Poland. Tatra National Park was established on the polish side of the Tatras in 1954 and cover an area of more than 200 sq km. The park has over 30 mountain lakes including the largest of all in the Tatras – Morskie Oko with an area of 35 ha. The Valley of Five Polish Tarns boasts Wielki Staw being the deepest of all Tatra mountain lakes: 79 m.The highest waterfall of the Polish Tatras is named Wielka Siklawa reaching 70 metres.

The Polish part of the High Tatras boasts perhaps the most difficult hiking trail in the Carpathians named Eagle Path.
