Maithili + Bengali = Brajabuli

In this video, we will be exploring the fascinating language of Brajabuli. It is a unique blend of Bengali and Maithili, and was created by Bengali speakers who were huge fans of Maithili, but did not actually speak the language themselves.

They wrote songs in this hybrid language as a way to express their devotion to Radha and Krishna, and it was Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and his followers who popularized it. It is important to note that Brajabuli should not be confused with Braj Bhasha, which is spoken in Uttar Pradesh.

Brajabuli, on the other hand, is a form of Maithili that originated in the lands of Bengal. In the past, Maithili and Bengali were written in the same script, which has now evolved into the Tirhut script. So come join us as we delve into the rich history and culture behind the beautiful language of Brajabuli.
