WATCH: Terrifying scenes as lightning strikes after Indonesia volcano erupts
Lightning was seen striking down as a volcano erupted in Indonesia, leading to concerns about a potential tsunami.
Mount Ruang, a stratovolcano located in Indonesia’s outermost region, first erupted on Tuesday and then erupted another four times on Wednesday.
The volcano’s huge eruption led to over 11,000 people evacuating.
An official from the local search and rescue agency, Jandry Paendong, spoke about the evacuation.
“Last night people evacuated on their own but without direction due to the volcano’s eruption and materials in the form of small rocks that fell, so the people scattered to find evacuation routes,” he said.
According to Indonesia’s Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation, the volcano has erupted five times in the past 24 hours, as reported by the Herald Sun.
