Praxinoscope

Invented in 1877 by Emile Reynaud, the praxinoscope is an amazing device that uses a rotating drum of tiny mirrors to create the illusion of motion. Like the zoetrope and thaumatrope, it demonstrates persistance of vision. A strip of sequential drawings, each showing the next sequence of movement, is placed on the inside of the outer drum. When the whole thing rotates, the animation is seen reflected in the moving mirrors. The number of mirrors is the same as the number of drawings.
