How to make a Neil Peart cowbell tree

Daddio here. This week we are recreating the Professor's cowbell tree. Neil Peart's melodic cowbells were a signature of his and make appearances all over the Rush discography. The cowbell feature during the drum solo on Exit Stage Left remains a personal favorite. Xanadu and the Trees are another couple of standout tracks that feature the bells.

Neil never disclosed the secrets of his cowbells (to my knowledge, anyway). Fans have determined that the triple bell set (the 3 smallest bells) were made by Gon Bops. They are no longer made, haven't been made in who-knows-how long, and almost ever show up in the wild. The original Gon Bops bells are exceedingly rare, to say the least. The other bells were made by LP, and can still be found quite easily today.

The closest facsimile to the vintage Gon Bops bells available today are the Pearl Tri-Bells. They are slightly larger than the Gon Bops bells, and the pitches are slightly flatter, but they come really darn close! Unless one wants to weld one's own cowbells, the Pearls are the best option by far. Other "triple bell" configurations by Meinl, and even Gon Bops modern offerings don't hold a candle.

So, stick around and join us while we make some DIY Neil Peart cowbells.
