Hey guys, the official Brompton Quad Lock phone mount has finally arrived, and now the question arises. Which phone mount is the best for the Brompton folding bike?
In this video I'm comparing the new Quad Lock mount with the previously-favorite Trigo stem mount. Let me know your opinions about these mounts down in the video description.

The Brompton Quad Lock Mount is FINALLY Here! | Is it the best one?

Hey guys, welcome back to Everyday Cycling, I am Victor, and today we’ll talk about the new Brompton Quad Lock phone mount. If you don’t know what Quad Lock is, they’re a company that pretty much makes some of the best phone mounts for bikes and motorcycles out there. Brompton sent me this mount for free, but this is not a sponsored video. I’ll share my opinions on it, what I like and what I don’t like so much, and also compare it to the Trigo mount, which I’ve used for the past six months and, so far, this one has been the go-to choice for Brompton riders. Will that change now? I guess we’ll see. For each of the comparison aspects we’ll talk about today, I’ll grant one point to either one of these if there’s a clear winner, and half a point if one of them is just slightly better than the other.
Before we compare these two mounts, let’s take a closer look at the new Quad Lock. It comes in a nice paper box with both Brompton and Quad Lock logos on it, it says it’s compatible with all handlebar types, with the exception of the older P-Type, and it also gives us the maximum phone dimensions. These are pretty much the dimensions of my Samsung Galaxy Note8, so in this video we’ll be able to see what it looks like for these big phones. This is the handlebar mount only. To attach your phone to it, you’ll also need a Quad Lock phone case or a Universal mount, like the one I have here, and these are sold separately. If you have a newer generation phone, there may be a case for it, you can check that on Quad Lock’s website, but if you have an older phone like me, you’ll have to settle with the Quad Lock universal adapter. This adapter is a plastic piece that is permanently glued to either the back of your phone or to the back of your current phone case. The Trigo mount has a similar back plate, which is this one I have glued to the back of my phone, but this one comes included with the mount.
The first comparison point is price. The Quad Lock mount costs about $50 for the mount only, or $70 for the mount + the Universal Adaptor. The Trigo mount comes in a complete set for about $32 on Amazon, so pretty much half the price. Therefore, the first point goes to the Trigo mount.
The next comparison is about weight. Even though I personally don’t care about weight at all, the Quad Lock is noticeably larger than the Trigo mount, so some of you may be interested in knowing how different they are when it comes to their weight. The Quad Lock + Adapter weigh in at 67 grams, while the Trigo mount + its adapter weigh in at about 59 grams. Not a huge difference, but the point goes to the Trigo mount.
Next, let’s talk about construction of these mounts. The Trigo mount is made out of metal and the Quad Lock is made out of injected plastic. Both feel solid and well-built, so here I don’t think there really is a winner here. I do like the fact that the Quad Lock has a rubber ring at the surface to make the connection more solid and prevent a rattling noise, so I will give a half point advantage to the Quad lock in this aspect. Even though the Trigo mount also doesn’t make any noises, I do think the rubber ring is a nice touch from Quad Lock.
Next, let’s talk about installation. Brompton released an official video showcasing this mount and giving very clear instructions on how to install it, so I’ll leave a link to it down in the video description, but I won’t cover that here because it’s easy and straight forward. This is what it looks like in the end. The mounting bracket attaches to both sides of the handlebar and the actual mounting base sits right in the middle. The lever that releases the phone is originally placed on the left side, but you can change that by unscrewing the center bolt and rotating the components. The Trigo mount doesn’t take up any space on the handlebars, because it’s installed using this gap at the stem.
