Chronicles of the Great Unknown - Washed Ashore - Session 12 [Pathfinder 2E]
Session 12 opens the morning after the party’s first night inside the abandoned coastal cabin near Otari. What should have been a quiet recovery quickly turns tense when Pip and Flammie become violently distressed, clawing at the cabin door and reacting to something outside along the shoreline.
The group follows the familiars down to the surf where two strange seal-like predators circle what first appears to be nothing more than a moss-covered rock. As the creatures feed, the truth becomes clear. The shape in the water is a living body tangled in kelp, barnacles, and sea debris.
Combat erupts in the shallows as Thorak charges into the surf while Rosa and Huurtz support from range. The unstable footing and crashing water make the fight dangerous, but the creatures are eventually brought down before they can finish feeding on their victim.
The survivor is revealed to be Mossy Gulliver, a massive bald orc washed ashore nearly dead from exposure. Though physically imposing, Mossy proves calm and cooperative, and the party escorts him back to the cabin to recover.
Inside the safety of the cabin, Rosa refuses to let Mossy blindly involve himself with the group without understanding who they truly are. Over the course of several hours, the party recounts the road that brought them here: the goblin raid in Sandpoint, the formation of Greenveil, the voyage south, and the catastrophe surrounding Arvensoar Tower in Magnimar. Mossy listens to the full truth, including the danger now hanging over the group’s future.
As the conversation continues, the group realizes they have not checked on either Kisk or Captain Rell’s ship for quite some time. After confirming the vessel still appears safe offshore, attention returns to the unfinished task inside the cabin itself.
Further exploration reveals more web-covered rooms hidden deeper within the structure. Giant spiders infest the interior, and another violent fight breaks out among rotting furniture, thick webs, and overwhelming stench. During the cleanup afterward, Huurtz uncovers the missing grandfather clock hidden beneath debris and filth, finally locating the object Tamily Tanderveil sent them to recover.
With the clock secured, the party transports it back toward the ship. Along the return journey, Kisk finally confesses that the tragic story surrounding the loss of his legs was fabricated for sympathy and survival. Rather than turning on him, the group accepts the truth with irritation, humor, and understanding, reinforcing the strange bond slowly forming between them all.
The session closes with the cabin mostly secured, the grandfather clock recovered, and Mossy Gulliver beginning to settle into the growing chaos of Greenveil.
