Mahiya by Annie Khalid is one of the most iconic pop songs to come out of Pakistan in the mid-2000s. Released around 2005–2006, it was Annie’s debut single and quickly became a massive hit, gaining her instant fame across the country and among South Asian audiences globally. With its catchy melody, romantic lyrics, and stylish music video, Mahiya stood out in the local music scene and helped shape the pop landscape of that era. The song received extensive airplay on music channels like ARY Musik and The Musik, and Annie Khalid was soon recognized as a pop sensation with a modern and fresh image. Interestingly, Mahiya was later featured in the 2007 Bollywood film Awarapan, where it was re-recorded and sung by Suzanne D’Mello. Despite that, the original Mahiya remains a beloved classic, remembered for its unique sound and the way it opened doors for more female pop artists in Pakistan.
