The structure sits exactly at the waterline.
This was not an accident.
The original construction brief specified it.
The brief did not say why.

Threshold Station Nine was built on the edge of
the REDNOX inland sea in Cycle 71. The foundation,
per the construction specification, extends no less
than forty meters below the surface. The above-water
structure is twelve meters tall. The vast majority
of this building is underwater, and has been since
the day it was completed.

The door at the center has never been observed open.
The light behind it has never gone out.

Divers were sent in Cycle 85 to inspect the submerged
foundation — standard structural assessment, two-person
team, full equipment. They reached twenty-two meters
before the dive was aborted. The reason given in the
report is one word: *occupied.*

The word is not elaborated on.
The dive was not repeated.
The report was filed and archived and the divers
were thanked for their service and that was the
end of the formal inquiry into what is below
the waterline at Threshold Station Nine.

The light is still on behind the door.
The water is still warmer here than anywhere
else on the inland sea, in every season,
without explanation.

Something below the surface is generating that heat.
Something below the surface has been generating it
since Cycle 71, without interruption, without
a registered power source, without acknowledgment
from the REDNOX registry that any of this is unusual.

The door is closed.
The water is warm.
The reflection is perfect.
