Happy birthday, Henry Tudor

As England descends into bloody chaos, the screams of a 13-year-old girl who has been trying to give birth to a child for several days resound in a windswept castle in Wales. On January 28, Margaret Beaufort gave birth to a son, a child without a father, but in the devoted care of his mother and uncle.

The child was christened Henry in honor of the reigning king and the boy's half–uncle, Henry VI. Welsh poets composed songs and ballads in honor of the birth of Henry Tudor, on whom they pinned all their hopes, considering him to be the "Son of Prophecy" from ancient legends dating back to the time of Merlin.
