David Essex OBE - born 23rd July 1947

Here is another of my archive interviews with celebrities to mark their birthdays. 23rd July is the birthday of the singer, songwriter, and actor David Essex. Since the 1970s, he has had 19 Top 40 singles in the UK (including two number ones) and 16 Top 40 albums. Internationally, he had the most success with his 1973 single "Rock On". He has also had an extensive career as an actor in films, on stage and television.

In this excerpt he begins by talking about his love of Football as a boy and how his career began as a drummer.
