Chequamegon Bay Area Partnership/Landowner Charlie Ylitalo
Marengo River Valley landowner Charlie Ylitalo explains his reasons for creating wetland ponds on his property and how it all started at a community watershed event sponsored by the Bad River Watershed Association (BRWA). The BRWA helped put Elmer in touch with Ashland County Land and Water Conservation Department (LWCD) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), who coordinated completion of the wetland project. Landowners like Charlie are playing a key role in slowing the flow of runoff and reducing sediment problems to streams in the Chequamegon Bay region. The project was funded in part from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, as well as LWCD, FWS, and Ducks Unlimited.
