Central Asia Geography: Why History Happened Here | Central Asia History (Lecture 1)
Central Asia looks remote on a modern map — but its mountains, deserts, rivers, and oases shaped everything: trade, migration, borders, and empires.
In Lecture 1, we start with geography — because without it, Central Asian history makes no sense.
In this lecture:
— What “Central Asia” means (political vs geographic definition)
— Mountains, deserts, and steppe: the region’s main landscapes
— Water = power: rivers, oases, and why cities grow where they grow
— Nomads and settled people: two lifestyles that shaped the region for millennia
— Why the Silk Road runs through Central Asia (and why it wasn’t always “stable”)
Subtitles available: English, Russian, Uzbek, Italian and Spanish (click ⚙️)
