I did not always have confidence on camera. But despite my introverted nature, I learned to get comfortable and now video content is one of the most effective modes I use to reach my audience.
Video content is great because it allows people to connect with you in ways that text doesn’t do. When someone can see you and hear you on camera, they get a very clear idea of who you are and how passionate you are about your message. With videos, you can show your true self and thus bring you and your prospect closer together.
However, I understand why many people lack confidence on camera. It can seem daunting to roll the video and have to come up with the right things to say, knowing that many people could eventually be watching. It’s important to get comfortable with video because it could mean the difference between success and failure for your business.
That’s the way I thought about it and it helped me get over my fear. Whenever I was faced with new content to record, I would remind myself that if I truly wanted to make this business a reality, I would have to create videos.
Now, one creative tip that can help you overcome your fear is to talk to some kind of figure rather than the camera itself. For example, a friend of mine uses a Gumby figurine. He places Gumby on top of the camera and as he’s recording he’s really directing his message to Gumby rather than the camera.
Use whatever strategy works for you. The most important thing is to gain confidence on camera so that you don’t miss out on video content. Once you get comfortable with making videos, you won’t want to stop.
