"Down and Out Blues" composed by Sam Mayo in 1938 Sung by David Giardina. The song reflects the plight of those feeling the ravages of capitalism's underbelly most acutely. This video contains footage from an MGM film called "This Is the Bowery" produced in 1941 and filmed in New York City's Bowery - known for years as " the Port of Lost Men". The film used only real denizens of this district with no professional actors or studio sets. The Bowery never more lived up to it's notoriety than it did during the years of the "great depression" of 1929-1939.
