James Webb Space Telescope Views Stunning Star Formation in the Perseus Nebula
The James Webb Space Telescope has captured a stunning mosaic of the star-forming cluster NGC 1333, located 960 light-years away in the Perseus molecular cloud. Webb's infrared capabilities reveal young stars, brown dwarfs, and planetary-mass objects previously hidden by dust, which Hubble's earlier image could not fully penetrate. The image showcases active star formation, with glowing gas and Herbig-Haro objects marking the birth of new stars. The young stars in this cluster, some surrounded by disks of gas and dust, offer insights into the early stages of stellar and planetary formation, similar to how our own Sun and planets formed.
