DC-3 Wreck in Iceland || Extreme Aviation Iceland

Our flight on two Jodel airplanes to North East Iceland and we flew over this old wreckage of DC-3.
The airplane wreck is located at Sauðanes, Langanes, where the old airport used to be. The plane has been there since 1969, a Douglas DC-3 (R4D-S) of the United States Navy. The pilot Russell W. Sims Jr, Executive Officer of NAS Keflavik, was flying in supplies and mail when crosswinds and an unimproved runway surface made the landing very difficult. The plane was damaged beyond economic repair during the landing. Only five days after our flight over this wreck on the 13th of June 2023, the DC-3 was finally moved after 54 years at this spot. It is now being moved to Eyvindarholt in the South of Iceland.
