Gacy, the Man Behind My Nightmare Part 1

John Wayne Gacy, one of the world's most infamous serial killers in the 70's having been found guilty of ending and abusing the lives of At LEAST 33 young men and burying most in his crawl space, has been giving me nightmares for most of my life because I knew him.

I knew his family, I knew a few of the victims, I had been at his house, but worst of all is the fact I spent so much time at my grandmother's apartment at 6114 W. Miami Ave, which is where his mother Marion lived. She was my grandmother's friend. He was the maintenance guy for the building. He spent a lot of time there. He spent a lot of time in my grandmother's apartment. Several of these victims would come around to do stuff like mow the lawn or repair broken things in the building. Yet, the major things that were done Gacy did by himself. Usually overnight. With no warning. Like the parking area, went to bed with it being gravel, woke up to it being paved in the middle of the night. The unit below my grandma's was considered the storage area where the laundry machines and storage lockers for the tenants were. Go to bed with there being a plumbing issue and waking up to being told to avoid that area to let the concrete set. Concrete that was set in the middle of the night! Waking up in the morning a different day and seeing obvious signs of landscaping done, and again, being done in the middle of the night. When he was asked, he would just laugh and say it's the only time he has free to do the work needed because he was busy during the daytime hours handling paying jobs. Didn't think twice about it at that time. One thing about him is the fact that guy could go days without stopping! He was in his mid to late 30's but moved like a teenager staying up all night and partying even with a bad heart. There was a lot of opinions that was why he would target teens/young men, but I don't think that was he reasoning. I think he targeted them for a few reasons, like them being young and wanting to have money and he was willing to pretend to pay high hourly rates or because they were most likely to want to party, or because they had trouble at home and had left and he was offering them food, money, and a place to sleep. But the main reason I think he targeted them was because he could easily trick them and overpower them. There were a few that actually escaped him because they were able to overpower him but not before being assaulted sadly. And after several different accusations against him he just decided to end the lives of anyone else to not get caught.

Then on December 22, 1978, wake up to the news saying John Wayne Gacy was arrested on December 21st for drugs and reckless driving and for the disappearance of Rob Piest who was last seen leaving Nisson pharmacy with Gacy and then it all exploded!

So many red flags that were not seen at the time because he was an excellent liar! I wonder how things would have been if he was actually held accountable after being arrested in '71 for an attempted S.A. on a teen in Feb. as well as being accused of flashing a badge in June of '71 and S.A. a different teen, but nothing was done and nothing was reported to parole even though he was still on it! More accusations came up starting in '73 with at least 2 other survivors and in '75 a few different parents brought him up when trying to find there missing son like the Butkovich's family.

But yet, that was just the start of it! Going through all that and then years later exactly what many of us feared started coming up again. Roughly in 2011, all over the news again where accusations that Gacy buried some victims at the Miami Ave property.

This is my memory of it all.
