About Psoriasis

James G. Kreuger, MD, PhD, protocol chair of the Immune Tolerance Network's PAUSE study, discusses psoriasis and it's cause.

Psoriasis is a chronic, autoimmune disease that appears on the skin. It occurs when the immune system sends out faulty signals that speed up the growth cycle of skin cells. It is the most common autoimmune disease in the U.S., affecting as many as 7.5 million Americans. Psoriasis can show up anywhere—on the eyelids, ears, mouth and lips, skin folds, hands and feet, and nails.

PAUSE is a clinical research study being conducted by the Immune Tolerance Network and sponsored by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIH funded). For more information, visit www.pausestudy.org.
