🧬 CENTROSOME – The Cell’s Command Center of Division
The centrosome is the master organizer of cell division — the structure that decides how a cell divides, how chromosomes separate, and how life continues.
Located near the nucleus, the centrosome contains a pair of centrioles and acts as the microtubule-organizing center (MTOC).
It forms the mitotic spindle, controls chromosomal movement, and ensures accurate cell reproduction.
Without a properly functioning centrosome, cell division becomes abnormal — leading to genetic disorders, cancerous growth, and developmental defects.
In simple words:
Centrosome is the silent commander that keeps cell division disciplined, accurate, and life protected.
🔬 Key Functions of Centrosome
• Initiates spindle fiber formation
• Controls chromosome alignment & separation
• Maintains cell polarity and shape
• Plays a critical role in cilia & flagella formation
• Prevents abnormal division (cancer prevention)
⚠️ Clinical Importance
Centrosome dysfunction is directly linked with: • Cancer progression
• Infertility disorders
• Developmental abnormalities
• Neurodegenerative diseases
