This is a song with such an inspirational message - it's like an anthem for this time we are all going through - a song encouraging empathy, hope and solidarity. I decided to reference Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" at the end as I feel that the message is the same - across oceans and across centuries. In Italy, and later in Germany and the UK - musicians have been playing "Ode to Joy" at 6pm to honour doctors and nurses and all essential workers. This year marks the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth and I feel he would be really touched to know that his melody - his message (in combination with the wonderful text by Schiller) is being embraced and shared.
