I’ve noticed a ton of confusion going on recently with Trump’s demand for $2000 checks in a revised stimulus bill.

Some people are saying President Trump won’t end up vetoing the bill, others say he will but Congress will over turn it quickly, and on top of this there’s talk of a pocket veto that conveniently lines up to a timeline to void the bill.

This has sparked some interesting pressure from both sides, Democrats are urging Trump to follow through with the veto, and Republicans poised to overturn any Veto attempts.

AOC quickly added fuel to the flames by tweeting out an amendment to the stimulus bill written with Rashida Tlaib to exchange the $600 stimulus checks with $2000 checks.

All parties involved seem to have their own... for lack of better term “trump” cards in this debacle, McConnell has a bill approved and ready that will keep needed programs alive and provide the people with a bit of assistance.

Nancy has Trump on her side in regards to bigger checks, and the support of many leaders to move forward with the amendment or risk losing the bill.

Then of course Trump has the heart string of the Americans as he argues the bill has little to do with COVID relief or directly help the Country. BIllions of dollars are going to other countries while Americans will be receiving little funding and no back pay for the 9 months it took them to get to this chaotic point!

The problem is President Trump is also riding a thin line here with so many programs set to expire after Christmas if he does veto or pocket veto there will be at the very least a lapse in these programs...worse still they may end and people in need may not help until early February.. or not at all.

We’re looking at some tricky situations here. If Trump goes through with a regular Veto Congress can quickly overturn that veto via a supermajority by the 29th of December and get the bill passed in law.

This would cause a 4 day gap in programs such as Unemployment Insurance, but this would get everything back up in running for another 3 months while giving direct $600 checks to qualifying people.

That is of course assuming Democrats will side with Republicans as previously thought, however that has been tipped upside down.

looking at this negotiation wise I don’t believe trump will do a regular veto.

If Trump veto’s 2/3rds of Congress needs to block that Veto however this is unlikely to happen as Democrats want the $2000 stimulus check. Because of this I believe a regular veto at this point means no stimulus bill for at least a few weeks to possibly more than a month.

However, the way this lines up on the calendar if President Trump does a pocket Veto he can literally sit there until Congress adjourns in and government funding runs out in 9 days, 1 day before the 10 day limit of a pocket veto.

This is important because there is a law that states if Congress adjourns before the 10 day limit the bill is automatically dropped.
