DIY Solar Cooker! - Fully Mirrorized! (w/glass mirror conversion!) - Cooks Great! $14 - Easy DIY
video shows how to make (or convert) a simple aluminum foil parabolic trough cooker into one made with real glass mirrors. this update also adds 2 side braces and 5 cooking levels *with three homemade skewers for the complete cooking experience. total cost of build (including the 3 homemade skewers) is about 14 dollars (with the mirror only costing $5.00). the original video on building the body or structure of the unit *along with shaping and drawing a parabola is included with this video (in Hyper-Speed). here's the link to original video https://youtu.be/wFwVkuN4s3U
couple of notes - consider making the unit bigger (maybe use a 24 or 28" box). the bigger it is the faster it works. use aluminum foil under the glass mirror (as shown). that way anything that drips off the food can be easily wiped off the mirror and won't reach the internal structure of the unit. or to avoid that issue just make the units' focal point a bit farther out (maybe 12 or 18") that way if anything drips, it will miss the mirror and just hit the ground. and finally, make sure to make the side notches in the 2 wooden braces. i'd suggest cutting a small slit at a 45 degree angle to each one of the holes. that way the skewers can easily be placed and removed. if interested, here's the link to the video i made on that small wooden stand https://youtu.be/GVW6olidTCQ happy grilling!
