GWR STEAM Museum - Swindon 26/03/2016

A brief visit to the Great Western Railway STEAM Museum in Swindon, on the site of the old railway works.

Originally opened in 1843 under the Great Western Railway, Swindon Works saw 143 years worth of service until closure in 1986 under the control of British Rail. At its height, the works spanned over 300 acres of land.

The STEAM Museum, opened in 2000 to replace the already existing 'GWR Museum', is situated on the site of the old Machine Shops, with sections also covering what was the Fitting Shops and Turning Shop.
