Canon MX340 scanner slowing down after a few pages

We have a Canon MX340 device which is scanner, printer and copy-machine. It can scan documents from the automatic document feeder to PDF files. After a while of using it, scanning will slow down. My guess is that it has a memory leak somewhere and cannot allocate larger stripes of memory. Or it has memory fragmentation which has the same effect. Either way one has to restart the device when this happens and speed is back to normal.

An example of buggy firmware and no way to get this fixed.
