Yamaha RD350 LC - The Motorcycle Icon of the 80s

This is the story of the classic two-stroke Yamaha RD350 LC motorcycle - the liquid-cooled evolution of the air-cooled RD400 and earlier RD350.

Introduced in the early 1980s to nearly universal acclaim, the RD350 LC became an icon almost overnight. It was a true giant killer, making other Japanese performance motorcycles and superbikes of the time look old, such as the Honda CB750, Suzuki GS750 and Kawasaki Z1.

With 47 horsepower at 8,000 RPM, the RD350 LC needed to be revved to achieve maximum performance and the LC gained a reputation for being a bit of a wild ride.

The entire two-stroke RD range has a cult following around the world, From the RD400 Daytona Special, which was the last air-cooled, street two-stroke sold in the US, to the Rajdoot 350 in India, which was a licensed copy of the RD350B modified for local conditions, these are bikes that have massive appeal to the widest variety of bikers.

Production of the RD 350 LC ran from 1980 to 1983, and Yamaha continued to evolve the formula, with the YPVS - Yamaha Power Valve System - revolutionising the two-stroke parallel twin.
