Yeasu FT-60 vs Baofeng BF-F8HP: power meter test

Power meter test between Yeasu FT-60R and Baofeng BF-F8HP using Diamond SX40C cross needle SWR power meter.
Yaesu FT-60 performed as advertised with power steps at High (5 watts), Medium (2 watts), and Low (0.5 watts). Baofeng BF-F8HP did not transmit at 8 watts when on High power as advertised but instead transmitted with power steps at High (6 watts), Medium (about 5.75 watts), and Low (1.75 watts). As advertised in the users manual the Baofeng BF-F8HP is supposed to transmit at 8, 4, and 1 watts on the high, medium, and low settings respectively. Both radios were fully charged when tested.
Both radios have worked well for me. The Yaesu FT-60 is 2 1/2 times more expensive as the Baofeng - and with little noticeable difference in sound quality. It does have more features and loads more memory channels though. I've had many fellow Hams mention and also read reports on-line that the Yaesu will far outlast the Baofeng. Just of late, the Baofeng has had a faint rapid 'ticking' sound when listening to other transmissions, but works well in all other respects. I purchased the Yaesu in part due to fear that the Baofeng would die on me unexpectedly and I would be without an HT.
Hope the video helps! KI7RED
