Transfer Files Between Two Laptops over Wi-Fi (Full Guide)

Whether you're at home or office, these step-by-step methods will help you share files quickly and safely between laptops connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Method 1: Share Files Over Wi-Fi Using a Shared Folder
Open the Start menu and type Control Panel
Click on Network and Internet
Open Network and Sharing Center
On the left side, select Change advanced sharing settings
In the Private section, turn on:
Network Discovery
File and Printer Sharing
In the All Networks section, turn off:
Password Protected Sharing
Click Save Changes
Open File Explorer
Go to the location where you want to create a new folder
Right-click, choose New Folder, and give it a name like "Shared Folder"
Right-click the folder and select Give access to then choose Specific people
Select Everyone and click Add
Change permission from Read to Read/Write
Click Share, then Done
On the second laptop, open File Explorer
Click on Network from the left menu
Select the first laptop name and open the shared folder
Copy the files and paste them to any folder on your second laptop
To stop sharing, right-click the folder, choose Remove access, then click Stop sharing

Make sure both laptops are connected to the same Wi-Fi network
Open the Start menu and go to Settings
Go to System, then find Nearby Sharing
Turn on Nearby Sharing and select Everyone Nearby
Go to Shared Experiences
Make sure Nearby Sharing is On and set to Everyone Nearby
Scroll down and turn on Share across devices
To send a file, open File Explorer
Right-click the file you want to send and click Share
Select the other computer from the list
On the second laptop, click Save when the pop-up appears
