In this video Heimler takes you through Unit 3 Topic 3 of the AP U.S. History curriculum which is set in period 3 (1754-1800).
Following the French and Indian War (Seven Years' War) Britain cranked up the heat on the colonies by raising taxes in order to help pay for the war. At this, the era of salutary neglect had come to an end.
Parliament passed the Sugar Act, the Quartering Act, the Stamp Act, the Townshend Acts, and more in order to raise funds to help pay off their war debt.
However, the colonists grew increasingly bitter about these new taxes precisely because they had no representation in Parliament. British officials countered and said the colonies had virtual representation, but the colonists understood representation differently, which is to say, by location.
Ultimately this would lead us to the Revolution, but not yet.
If you have any questions, leave them below and Heimler shall answer forthwithly.
