My pathway to become a Chemistry PhD Student
Here I share a summary of my career path so far as chemist and some of the things I did in college to prepare myself as a strong applicant for graduate school.

Summary of tips:
1. When choosing a career pick something that you love doing
2. Do extracurricular activities that add to your skill set
3. Get to now yourself and find activities you want to pursue
4. Stress release activities are very important
5. Start doing research early in your career
6. Explore what disciplines really interest you
7. Harness the resources your school provides
8. Do not be afraid to explore topics outside of your major
9. Do not be afraid to speak a new language
10. Be confident in your self and your abilities
11. Keep looking and researching until you find what you are passionate about
12. Make a list of schools you are interested for your next step
13. Most schools have PAID summer internship opportunities, look for these at their webpages
14. Your mentors are key in advising your career and providing letters of recommendation
15. If you don’t understand something do not be afraid to ask, most people are happy to help
16. Find a community of like-minded individuals to discuss ideas, grow together and keep each other balanced
17. Prepare and work hard to achieve your goals and never let fear overshadow your confidence
Some other tips that I forgot to mention in the video:
-Go to conferences and present your research, you get to meet lots of interesting scientists and you might even meet your future graduate school mentor.
-Once you have decided you want to pursue a graduate career, find the schools that you are interested in, the department and the laboratories that most interest you and email students and professors to ask about the lab dynamics and work environment.
