Broken Knees: Different Types of Fractures

Knee fractures can occur in many different ways, and they can range from mild to severe. The first type we'll discuss is the comminuted displaced fracture, which is a fracture that breaks the bone into several pieces that have shifted out of place. Next is the comminuted non-displaced fracture, which is similar but with the pieces still in alignment. The lower pole fracture happens at the bottom of the knee-cap, while an osteochondral fracture affects the cartilage and bone of the joint. The transverse displaced fracture is a clean break across the bone that has moved, and the transverse non-displaced fracture is similar, but the bone is still in alignment.
