Evacuation order issued in Forbes due to approaching flood peak

An evacuation order has just been issued for residents of Forbes in Central West, New South Wales as a major flood peak in the Lachlan River approaches.

A text message went out to everyone in town saying people in low-lying areas - around 800 homes - have until 9:30pm to evacuate.

It said if residents are unable to stay with friends or family, an evacuation is set up at the St Andrew's Presbyterian Church.

The SES will be going door to door to alert homes identified as being at risk.

The Lachlan River has been rising overnight and throughout the day, with the height of it expected to reach around 10.65 metres.
