Tasmanian salmon industry at risk of shutdown to save endangered fish

A Tasmanian coastal community is living in fear after Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek warned of a potential shutdown of the state's salmon industry.

The Federal government is set to review farming operations worth $1.3 billion.

Environmentalists have raised concerns that a unique species of fish could become extinct.

Salmon farmers in Strahan say that any pause in the industry could be catastrophic.

The Federal government is set to review whether the industry aligns with an environmental protection act introduced by the Howard government in 2000.
