TIPM Repair Jeep Chrysler - Fuel Pump Relay

There is a recall out for this kind of repair on some Jeeps, and other Chrysler cars. But if you are out of warranty, then you have to decide to either cut your wire harness up and install an external relay, or to repair the relay in the TIPM. This video shows how i did it, and how the contacts on the old relay looked like. Horrible!
The original relay was replaced by EX1-2U1S

(Part Number Kemet 551-EX1-2U1S) The relay is not that expensive, and it is more the work that awaits you, when you try to replace it. Overall the desoldering process is the most annoying step. Therefore the external relay solution seems a good idea, if this kind of defect could happen again in the future.

One more thought on this relay. If it fails, the engine would stall, or it wouldn't start. Imagine you have to get a tow truck to take the car to the next dealer, if not under warranty you would pay for a new TIPM plus installation, and that would cost you more than $1000. The external relay solution is about $100, and this internal relay goes for $5 or less. Best time for this work would be a nice dry warm day with a backup car in the driveway. As for the time needed to do this fix, i was done in less than 2 hours, and i took my time, because i had to record this video for you.
Additional relay options: Mouser part number 551-EX2-2U1S
is a double relay that is used for Wiper, Door Locks, Front/Rear Washer. Just in case you have a TIPM acting on those, make sure you have your parts ordered before you open it.
