ABurlyQ! was conceived in early 2010 as a way to return the Sideshow and Vaudeville arts to their rightful place on stage alongside burlesque, as it was done around the turn of the Twentieth Century. Before then, these arts were largely overlooked in burlesque shows and festivals here in New Mexico. After careful planning, the first ABurlyQ! Weekender, titled "ABurlyQ! A Burlesque & Sideshow Spectaculár!" debuted in the summer of 2011. The four-day festival brought in performers from across the nation, including legends of Burlesque; Satan's Angel (back in Albuquerque for the first time in 30 years-an historic moment for the city) and Gyna Rose Jewel of North Carolina.
The festival brought well over 40 unique acts to the Friday Night Spotlight at Evolution and the Main Event on Saturday night, held at the historic Sunshine Theater, and remains to this day the largest number of individual acts for any show in New Mexico. Almost every single act on both stages had never before been seen anywhere in the state, a feat not easily accomplished in Burlesque and Sideshow events.

This year the shows were presented August 22 and 23 at the African American Performing Arts Center in Albuquerque.
