I am aware that this painting is from Delacroix's Liberty Leading the People; it happens to be evocative of the spirit of the times, so call it artistic license.

I'm seeing a lot of argument about Napoleon's ties to the song--and as you like--however this was a favorite of the Grande Armee and was played at the field of Austerlitz to motivate the troops
