Live Nation Faces Tough Fight Over Possible Ticketmaster Breakup

Live Nation, found liable by a jury on April 15 of engaging in monopolistic conduct, faces the prospect of a tough remedy after hearings and further proceedings on relief have concluded. The verdict is a significant overhang for Live Nation, as plaintiffs will likely seek a Ticketmaster divestiture and other remedies. Bloomberg's Jen Rie reports.

Though structural relief would be daunting for any judge to order, it's not out of the question given the company's recidivism. Short of a breakup, experts still expect a robust injunction, and monetary damages that could amount to $700 million. Live Nation was found to have used various tactics, including long-term exclusive agreements and tying amphitheater use to promotions services, to maintain monopolies in several markets. In March, the Justice Department and six states settled with the company.
