Excel - Can I Sum Data in Excel that is Filtered - Episode 2574

Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Excel Total Data After Filtering.

Welcome to my Excel tutorial on how to get the SUM of visible cells after applying a filter. In this video, I will show you how to get a sum of data that has been filtered in Excel. This is a common issue that many Excel users face, but don't worry, I have a solution for you.

Before we dive into the solution, let's take a look at the problem. As you can see, no filters have been applied yet and the sum function gives us a total of 686. However, when we apply a filter, the sum remains the same. This can be frustrating when you want to get the sum of only the visible cells.

But fear not, here's the solution. First, apply a filter to any column. Then, go to where you want the sum to be and press the AutoSum button. This will change the function from sum to subtotal. The number 9 in the subtotal function indicates that we want to sum the visible cells only. This means that when we clear the filter, both the sum and the subtotal will be the same.

However, there is one thing to keep in mind. If you manually hide rows instead of using a filter, the subtotal 9 won't change. But don't worry, Excel has provided us with a solution for this as well. Simply change the 9 to 109 and it will ignore the manually hidden rows. And there you have it, a simple solution to getting the sum of visible cells after applying a filter.

How can you sum data in Excel that has been filtered?
You have to apply the filter first and then AutoSum in Excel.
This video talks about the SUBTOTAL function in Excel.
There is a hack near the end in case someone is manually hiding rows in Excel.
In that case, change =SUBTOTAL(9, to =SUBTOTAL(109.
