Shen Yue’s mom is a housewife while her dad was a history teacher in Wugang High School, where she herself studied.

In her sophomore year in Hunan Normal University, she became interested with photography and developed connections and friendships with other photographers. She was at one of her friends' photo sessions when the model of the shoot had to back out last minute. She stepped in and posed as a firefighter in place of the model. Her photogenic snaps uploaded online caught the attention of a talent agent and invited her for an interview in Beijing, marking the kick-off of her showbiz career.

Shen made her acting debut in the Chinese television series AUTUMN HARVEST UPRISING in 2017, and proceeded to play a supporting role in the fantasy comedy television series LET'S SHAKE IT. In 2018, she portrayed the female lead Dong Shancai in the 2018 television series METEOR GARDEN. The series was a hit in the Southeast-Asian region, and led to increased popularity for Shen overseas. She then became a cast member of the Chinese variety show The Inn 2. In 2019, Shen starred in ANOTHER ME, a television drama. In 2020, Shen is set to star in the romance comedy drama EXCHANGE LUCK alongside Jerry Yan.
