Viral Budding: How Viruses Leave the Cell

This 3D medical animation illustrates the precise moment a virus exits a host cell through a process known as budding.

Unlike lysis (which bursts and destroys the cell instantly), budding allows the virus to exit by wrapping itself in a piece of the host cell's outer membrane. This stolen membrane becomes the virus's new viral envelope, complete with surface proteins. This mechanism allows the host cell to continue producing more viruses over time before eventually dying.
