No, non stai impazzendo.

Have you ever listened to a song over and over again, compulsively, as if your brain was trying not so much to understand it as to... solve it?

No, you're not going crazy. Music and mathematics are connected by imperceptible but very strong links: your brain simply realised it before you did, and started trying to solve the equation.

Now that algorithms - which are nothing more than mathematical schemes of calculation - are part of our digital lives, even when it comes to music, the connection is more evident than ever.

The competition in music is increasingly about personalisation and research, trying to anticipate a listener's tastes and offer them the most suitable music at that moment.

Here, algorithms are the link in the relationship between mathematics and music.

Is it possible that the listening experience is, after all, an experience of profound mathematical harmony?

Federica Tremolada, Spotify's Managing Director for Southern & Eastern Europe, talks about this in her talk at Think.her - the TEDxTorino event dedicated to women's voices and ideas.
She graduated from Bocconi with a degree in Economics for Arts, Culture and Communication. She then attended a postgraduate course in 'Leading Global Business' at Harvard Business School and is now Managing Director for Southern & Eastern Europe at Spotify.
Her many years of experience in international media (YouTube, for example) have laid a solid foundation for her career in the music business.
Music itself for her is not only a passion or a job, but above all a tool for inclusivity. She has organised projects and selected content to try to fight gender gap within the music industry.
In fact, platforms such as Spotify have potential to be a strong sounding board for communicating positive role models to the younger generation (for example, by distributing the works of artists more fairly). This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
