Does APPLE actually slow down your iPhone over time?

There has long been debate as to whether or not Apple should slow down phones over time to stop sudden shutdowns. This has long been known as Batterygate, and lawsuits have even stemmed from this.

Many people have put Apple under fire for these actions, but I feel they are doing the right thing. As sudden shutdowns are not ideal for your phone, especially if you are out and unable to charge.
