Neon SunFlower - New MC34063 High Voltage driver || 5v to 127v Boost Converter - Neon Lamp Flower

The MC34063 is a very nice IC to play with. It has a lot of flexibility, and this is my latest attempt to test the chip out with this new board.

The 5 volt to 127 volt boost converter has a 612 milliwatts output when tested with a 17k ohm resistor dummy load. generally can easily get one watt output power, but I am limiting the input current to exactly 300 milliamps. In other words, this board consumes exactly 1.5 watts of power when powered by a 5 volt source. The built in high current protection is super sweet.

The driver works quite well. It's a good idea to use a resistive load to take a good look at how well the MOSFET is being switched by the driver, and at 27k Hertz, the result is near perfection. I have also tested driving this with higher frequency, but generally, around 20k to 30k Hertz is my recommended range because MC34063 is not ideal gate driver for a high voltage MOSFET, especially at 5 volt. In other words, MC34063 is only good for sub 1 watt output devices.

That is all. See you later alligator.

17000*0.006*0.006=0.612 Watts
