Life With Mrs Blackbird

Whilst gardening a female blackbird became our "friend". She was never more than a foot or so away "helping" dig the garden. She certainly appreciated the odd worm or insect thrown her way.

She became tamer and tamer. We bought her some live mealworms as a treat and over a period of time she has become hand tame... so much so we dare not leave a door open as she's inclined to follow us around like a puppy and has no problems trotting inside the house after us...

She nested and after 15 days her three chicks hatched. Another 15 days later they fledged and relocated to our rear courtyard and that's where they still are as I post this...

In the meantime, Mr Bird has taken on parenting duties with a gusto... and Mrs Bird has built a second nest and is now spending lots of time sitting on it.

One could argue she's "just a common blackbird" - but she's been a pleasure to have around and be so tame!
