How are Social Media Platforms Designed to Foster Addiction?

There are public documents out there that reveal how these companies operate. The general gist of these documents is that companies strategize on how to capture more of children's time. For example, if they already have six hours of 90% of your kid’s time, their goal for the next quarter might be to increase that to ten hours. They know exactly where that extra time comes from—it comes from sleep, family, and friends. But they don’t care. The corporate culture prioritizes engagement above all else, with no regulation and no one to stop them. A young woman, CCE Neltner, was once addicted to Instagram and suffered from a severe eating disorder. She has since overcome those struggles and created a drawing during her recovery that reflects her experience. In the image, words like "lies" and other messages are embedded in the cord, representing the influence of social media. Now, she is an advocate for young people and is absolutely incredible.
