Here is the transcript of this video:

"One of the most misunderstood features of pulling winches deals with what is known as a "two way ratchet," seen here on another brand's winch. Even many experienced winch users think that a two way ratchet locks the winch when pulling a load in AND when letting it out.

However, this is NOT true- all ratchet winches must be placed in freewheel mode in order to let a load out, and the operator must then keep a firm grip on the handle, or it will spin dangerously out of control.

The actual purpose of a two way ratchet is to give users a choice to wind line over the top of the drum which is almost always the case or the bottom. Once that choice has been made, a two way ratchet is useless and could actually confuse the operator.

One way ratchets, traditionally used on smaller winches, eliminate this confusion. The ratchet is simply locked or unlocked.

To increase safety and ease of operation, larger capacity DL winches use a patented one way, reversible ratchet. It operates just like a one way ratchet, but can easily be switched to wind line onto the bottom of the drum if desired.

Simply remove the ratchet parts from the winch, reverse the direction of the ratchet, re-install all of the parts, then wind the strap or cable off the bottom of the drum.

A reversible ratchet that makes operating a pulling winch safer and less confusing?

That's the Dutton-Lainson difference.
